According to Mau, this was the largest of the street altars found.

It stood freely in a vaulted niche on the north side of VIII.2, but no traces of painting were to be seen near it.

Overbeck has a similar drawing which he describes as "a rather handsome altar, which, in order not to obstruct or narrow the traffic on the path, which is not too wide anyway, stands modestly in a wall niche, in which above it a depiction of a sacrifice was painted or placed in relief".
