This entrance leads into the north end of the atrium, we start our tour at the south end by entrance I.7.12.

According to Jashemski, Maiuri said the space between the columns and the west pillar of the portico were closed by glass set in a wooden frame.

This would have kept the rain and sun from the triclinium, tablinum and exedra.

Maiuri did not mention finding any glass and some scholars think that wooden shutters were used.

The zoccolo in this room was black. The central panel of this wall was red with a central painting, now faded.

The frieze was black, and the side panels were yellow and showed paintings of birds pecking among the plants.

The upper zone was white with two side aediculae, which had been destroyed by the passage of the ancient tunnellers.

According to Boyce, in the north wall are two arched niches at different levels.

The lower is the larger and has a slab of marble as its floor.
